Trail Head Information

Long's Peak (peek) is a one of the tallest peeks in Rock Mountain National Park. This is a very popular hike. Arrive early if you want to get a parking spot. You will need a wilderness permit from the Park Service to spend the night in the Boulder Field camp ground.

Here is a picture of the summit. We attempted to make it to the summit after spending the night in the bolder field campground.

The picture is from the trail up to the Bolder Field campground. As you can see at this altitude you can still see snow in July. The campground is still a ways up the mountain. It is a good place to spend the night if the weather is good.

Good morning from the bolder field campground on Long's peek. There is a composting toilet and little else. Water is available from a near by stream, but must be treated. We had to turn back as both me and my brother got altitude sickness. We did not even make to the Keyhole. If you attempt to spend the night at the bolder field. Bring plenty of water and a good warm sleeping bag. Also try to acclimate to the altitude. Spend at least a few days of doing nothing before ever attempting anything like this hike! Being in good physical does not always provide protection against altitude sickness.
